Martin and I drove down to Overcombe hoping for wind which was forecast to pick up in the afternoon. For once the forecasters got it pretty much right as the wind started to pick up on our way there.

When we arrived at Overcombe and met Phil, the wind was about 12 knots and a few people were beginning to rig up. The first guy out was on a 100 litre board with a 5.7m sail and struggled to get planing, but did get going now and then, so we decided to rig up and give it a go. I rigged my 6.3m sail and 100 litre board, Martin a 6.2m and 110 litre board and Phil a 5.7m and 103 litre board. To start with it was difficult to get going, especially working our way out through the small surf in the onshore conditions. Once out the back I was able to get planing OK most of the time though. Martin was a little under powered and I didn't see much of Phil.

The wind soon started to fill in though and more people joined us on the water, mainly with about 5.5-6.0m sails. There were a couple of guys out kite-surfing too, a few people on jet-skis further down the beach and a couple of people on surf-skis also on the water.

Once the wind got up, conditions became perfect for me for a while and I had some good fun playing on the small swells, with some little jumps and some turns on the waves 'faces'. The wind continued to pick up though and I soon became overpowered. I couldn't be bothered to rig a smaller sail, so just changed down to a smaller (85 litre) board. Martin also changed down to a similar sized board and Phil packed up to go home. I had a few good runs on my Hifly, still overpowered, but more in control with the smaller board. Martin couldn't get going on his smaller board, so after a while we both packed up and drove home.

All in all a fairly successful day, that finally broke the wind jinx Martin and I have experienced until now.
